As part of our 25th Birthday year (2009) we put in a bid for an Awards for All grant for £9374, and were told in February 2009 that it was successful. This provided a fantastic opportunity for our members to get some lasting benefit from this special year.
About the grant
There were three parts to the grant. The first was for the purchase of a laptop computer and accessories, which is being used to help members with no computing experience to learn how it all works. The second part was the funding for setting up this website, not just for the benefit of existing members, but to promote the WI generally, and to show prospective members what Ludlow WI is all about.
The third and largest part of the grant was to fund courses for our members to attend training, either locally or at Denman College. A total of 19 members attended Denman College and 83 courses were studied locally. Members enjoyed a very wide range of courses covering craft, history, cookery, photography and art to name but a few.
We have been able to pass on the skills learnt at a series of workshops throughout the grant period. These afternoons have proved very popular and have attracted some people who were not members of the institute (some of whom have since joined).
